Deborah Langerman  performed for 40 years as a professional movement artist in a variety of genres. Her performances included classical Mime, political and experimental theater, adapted fairy tales and Kabuki Theater. As a founding member of the United Mime Workers in 1972, Deborah and her colleagues performed in a variety of venues in every corner of the world. Their work consisted of experimental, highly choreographed depictions of social issues, including a 45-minute-long performance of a visual analogy of the Capitalist System.

Deborah conducted workshops in “Action Theater,” creating site specific Guerilla Theater, creatively turning traditional political protest into short educational theater actions and disruptions in non-traditional settings. Deborah also performed Kabuki Theater for 10 years, under the direction of Japanese “National Treasure” Shozo Sato.

A complete archive of Deborah's life work is housed at the Student Life and Culture Archives at The University of Illinois-Urbana.
