The day after she graduated from high school, Karen took a bus to NYC to study ballet at the Joffrey Ballet School.  A year later, she signed her first contract as a professional ballet dancer with the Ohio Ballet and later with the Darmstadt Opera Ballet in Germany.

Her career as a ballet dancer was an emotional roller coaster. The highs were very high and the lows were increasingly dreadful.  After a ten year career, Karen decided to apply to medical schools and find a cure for AIDS.  Before she could take that step, she attended a performance by master mime, Tony Montanaro. This performance touched Karen so deeply that even now, thirty years later, she continues to learn new things about what happened to her that day.  Eventually, Tony and Karen were married and started performing and teaching together. Tony died in 2002.
Karen continues his legacy as a mime and performer, but also as a teacher and truth-seeker.
